We continue our coverage of the upcoming Chaos Knights codex today by exploring organization of your forces for war, your detachment options, and stratagems.
BATTLE-FORGED RULES
The Battle-forged rules section of the book makes up 14 pages; a very refreshing change from some of the “heavy” codices we’ve seen of late. This is because Knights of both alignments tend to be small, lean, and powerful, taking a more brute-force approach than extreme strategy or fighting-style fluff. This section details the detachment abilities you receive, the Dread Household rules your forces fight under, and stratagems available to you.
DETACHMENT ABILITIES
The beating heart of your force, the flavor by which the lapdog of the Imperium will fear you.
Your Chaos Knight forces will gain the Traitoris Lance and Fallen Hero abilities, and their detachments gain Towering Foe, Traitoris Ambitions, and Household Bond.
And if that wasn’t enough, War Dogs have Objective Secured while in Chaos Knight Detachments.
· Traitoris Lances will have one of the Knights as a Character, allowing you to nab your Warlord trait and alter the battlefield with cunning leadership.
· Fallen Hero will give your Knight the Agent of Chaos ability, which allows you to have a limited number of Dreadblades in your force without detracting some of your bonuses.
· Towering Foe alters the model count for the purposes of Objective Secured.
· Traitorous Ambitions are essentially Chaos Knight “Chapter Tactics”
· Iconoclast and Infernal Households make their presence felt via rules:
o Iconoclasts have an additional attack and improved melee AP
o Infernals have additional wound-dealing depending on weapon types
· Household Bonds kick in when you have 3+ Chaos Knights (that are not Dreadblades) in the detachment.
Some of our favorite Dread Households are below:
House Lucaris – The house of decisive action and strategy; these guys have Conquerers Without Mercy and their bond allows for limited re-rolls of hit or wound rolls in the melee.
House Khomentis – The house of letting the warp take over you; they have the Demonic Surge ambition and their bond allows for re-rolls or even the ability to select multiple results on the Demonic Surge table…at the risk of their body through Mortal Wounds. Fluffy. Your Own House – Yes, you’re reading that right. You can make your own lesser-known Dread Household. There’s a page of each for you to make a pick between either an Iconoclast or Infernal Household.
