Mechanicum Ursarax review

This weekend sees the release of another round of preorders for the forces of the Mechanicum. Now is your first chance to collect the contents from the Heavy support boxset, we reviewed last month, as individual kits. New for this weekend, however, is the Ursarax cohort. A big thanks to Games Workshop for providing us with a free review copy.

The Ursarax cohort are the melee variant of the Thallax cohorts, which fill the Fast Attack slot in the Mechanicum force organization. The Ursarax exchange their various ranged weapons for one of two melee weapons. The squad comes stock  with lightning claws, providing AP3, Rending, and Shred. Ursarax have the option, one in three, to swap both their lightning claws for a pair of power fists. Power fists swing at I1 due to being Unwieldy, but will hurt anything they with at S-X2 and AP2. Ursarax also exchange the Incunabulan jet pack for a standard jump pack. The former grants Thallax a flat +6 movement characteristic and the ability to make an additional 6 inch move after shooting their ranged weapons. The jump pack on the Ursarax are the same as the jump packs found on Astartes units, providing 12 inch movement and the ability to deep strike. For shooting attacks, the Ursarax come with Volkite Incinerator. The Incinerators have a 10-inch range, with the standard volkite profile of S5, A5, Deflagrate.
The box of Ursarax comes with 6 miniatures inside. The leg section of the Ursarax are the exact same sprues we saw for the Thallax Cohorts. The Upper bodies and weapons new to this boxset. Both the lightning claws and the power fists have many pieces to chose from, allowing for great customization and posing.
