Welcome, Princeps!
We’ve been fortunate to be granted an early preview copy of
the upcoming Titandeath supplement
for Adeptus Titanicus. We’re very
excited to be given the opportunity to continue bringing you information about
the game and we’ll dive right in. This
article will cover the basics of the book as well as the first section, which
covers the lore and timeline of the Beta-Garmon warzone.
THE BOOK
The book is another hardback format that follows the same
presentation style of the core rules. It
evokes the feel of the Forge World red books for the Horus Heresy, with some
elements of the black books mixed in. At
just under 100 pages, this will be easy to transport to your games while still
being packed with new missions, Titan Legion rules, and more. Remember, this is also the first of the
Adeptus Titanicus supplements, so there will be more coming. However, we cannot deny that this sets a
pretty high standard already.
Titandeath spoils us with:
·
Six new narrative missions.
·
Rules for eight Titan Legions, four Loyalist and
four Traitor.
·
Four new maniples to be used in any game.
·
An Adeptus Titanicus campaign system.
THE LORE
Always a big sticking point for us at Titan Owners Club, the
lore of the Beta-Garmon campaign is brought out. We’re going to ding this book on the same
thing that we did the core rules: there is lore…but not as much as we’d like to
see. With that said, the lore that we
are given is a very nice, solid snapshot of what happened at Beta-Garmon and
pairs nicely with the Titandeath
novel released in late 2018. These books
operate in an almost seamless fashion when taken from the perspective of the
Imperial Hunters and the Death Stalkers.
Coming in at 12 pages, the
lore provides background on the Beta-Garmon cluster, which is named for the
seat of power, the Beta-Garmon system.
This warzone is a vital staging ground for the Imperium because it
provides a stable warp route as well as military assets that can be used to
stage its campaigns. Aside from that, it
is also the gateway to Terra itself, making it a prize to both sides of the
Horus Heresy. New to this book is the
map of the Beta-Garmon cluster which evokes the feel of the Imperium before its
Gothic obsession. The map gives the
reader a good glimpse of the warzone itself and helps to identify key fronts of
the war.
This section of the book also
briefly describes the five star systems that make up the cluster, with quick
blurbs given about key planets within specific star systems. Following that, the book provides a timeline
of the key battles that spanned this multi-year campaign. Of course, the book cannot be called Titandeath without covering “The
Titandeath” itself, which is an entry in the timeline. It also makes it quite clear that many of the
Titan Legions that fought in this cluster never left the system alive.
An interesting note is that
maniples types (such as the Verdis) are mentioned in the lore but not presented
in the book. We can only hope that this
means they’ll be covered in future supplements.
Nice work. Looking forward to getting my copy!
