The Plot: The war of Khania begins with the stars falling and a strategic undertaking of the Imperial Navy, Katarn Spears, and two Titan Legions going horribly awry from the outset. The early stage of the battle for a planet is set and the Imperial Hunters and Legio Pallidus Mor must find common ground and deal with a deadly foe.

Titan Focus: David Annandale comes back to his work in Warlord- Fury of the God Machine to provide a bit of extra backstory. It’s a short story that gives us the first battle for the fate of Khania, which is only briefly mentioned at the start of the novel. However, there is nothing new about the Legio Pallidus Mor or the Titans. All it does is show how Syagrius got off on the wrong foot with his new allies and gives us a bit of bolter porn. Perhaps the highlight is a fight that forces the Warlords from the two fractious allies to work together.

Score: 1.5/5 Cogs

Final Thoughts: The story doesn’t offer much for Titan lore itself and only reaffirms that which is already known from the novel. The characters continue to remain fully two-dimensional and there is never any real sense of danger, especially since the story was released after the novel and you know what will happen. In truth, this is filler material that could have easily been placed in the main novel and instead feels like a “DLC” moment. If you want to know more about one of the fights mentioned in the novel this short story is worth it from that standpoint, but otherwise, it’s not necessary to understanding the novel.

  1. Good to know I wasn't the only one to not really find the story that engaging. Thanks for the review!

    1. Our backlogs are finally becoming more like their normal (we really have been slammed full for an entire year), so you'll begin to see more of the interviews, literature reviews, and other extra content we crank out. That still includes Adeptus Titanicus as well.
