Chaos Knights Codex - Part 4

Greetings, fallen one.  We’re wrapping up our core coverage of the new Chaos Knights codex as we briefly look at the datasheets in the new book.  Normally, we’d break down the different units available in the various categories, but everything here is a Lord of War.  We’re not going to go in extremis here, but here are some highlights to the new codex:

·        War Dogs are staying in the 12-wound range

·        There are FIVE versions of the War Dog:

o   Executioners are the autocannon variant

o   Stalkers have a slaughterclaw and avenger chaincannon

§  Avenger chaincannons are a nice 12 shot, S6, AP -2 powerhouse

o   Karnivores are a new option with the reaper chaintalon and slaughterclaw

§  Slaughterclaws are S x2, AP-2, with 4-6 Damage

o   Brigands sport the Daemonbreath (Thermal) spear and chaincannon

o   Huntsmen sport the Daemonbreath spear and chaintalon

·        Questoris-based chassis Knights are staying in the 24-wound range

o   Reaper chainswords have strike-and-sweep patterns, allowing for hard-hitting strikes or horde control

o   Knight Abominant is a new class with the volkite combuster and electroscourge

§  Volkite will do six shots at S10, AP -1, 3 damage with a chance to inflict Mortal Wounds

§  Electroscourge is a melee powerhouse at S User, AP -2, D3, with 3 hit rolls instead of 1 per attack

§  It also has a balemace that provides additional attacks

·        Dominus-based chassis Knights stay in the 28-wound range

o   No real changes

CONCLUSION

This has been a heck of an update for the Chaos Knights.  Tons of new lore.  A beefy Crusade system.  God-based abilities and a reason to get stuck into the fight.  There aren’t many downsides to this new codex and it’s a hint of good things to come for both loyal and traitorous Knights on the tabletop.
