And no, today doesn't count.
Games Workshop has promised us an August release on Adeptus Titanicus (AT). We've already suffered one pushback, and now the dream is set to be a reality. By now, we've all seen the trailer. We've all seen the pictures. We've all scoured Warhammer Community. And we've all seen the unboxing on YouTube at the Forge World Open Day.
Please, it's time for this:
The wait is almost over and now it's just waiting out the last few days. This time, I'm offering up my thoughts on what I've seen and what I'm hoping for.
GAMEPLAY:
Serious confession here: I never played the original AT or EPIC! Yeah, I'm a complete rookie when it comes to playing AT because I came in the day 6th Edition 40k arrived and I missed the entire Specialist Games era. The closest experience I have at this point is Adeptus Titanicus: Dominus from Membraine Studios, which based the game on 4th edition Epic. What do I expect? Nothing.
That's not to say that I don't expect a game. I just have no preconceptions about how this game should be, and that may be a blessing in this case.
What I hope for is a different story, though. Already, we've seen that Titans are the main thing about the game and I want these behemoths to be everything we've come to expect in the lore. I want this game to feel like a clash of gods and for it to be as destructive as our imagination runs wild with. I expect Warhounds to crumple under the weight of fire from their larger cousins, but for them to be nimble and agile fighters that manouver around the battlefield and set up lethal crossfires that destroy voidshields, cripple larger Titans, or set up a deadly salvo from their larger kin. I expect the Warlord to be the dominant god of battle we hear about and know from our regular games. In short, I expect Dan Abnett's Titanicus (there's that gold standard again) to jump to life out there.
It's one thing for the Titans to feel like the Titans of lore, but there's one more thing the game has to be: engaging and tactical! It can't be as simple as move, shoot, assault. Titan warfare is a much more complex beast than that. We've already seen previews of the game at 28 mm scale and shown the command terminals of the game. I really want those command terminals to mean something. I'd love for those terminals to be so integral to the game that if you forget them at home that you better scramble back through traffic to go get them. Your choices on that terminal and EVERYTHING you do needs to really have an impact. They say that in a game like Infinity that every decision matters and that you are punished for even the slightest of tactical errors that your opponent knows how to capitalize on. I want AT to do the exact same thing where pushing yourself too hard means your likely to eat laser to the face and pay for it. Make the game tactical!
LORE:
This one is the simplest of my wishes. I hope that AT fleshes out the lore for us. We have plenty in the Horus Heresy black books from Forge World. There's enough out there in the Black Library books. But we know how this song and dance goes...we want more! More lore is never a bad thing.
TITANS:
The core of AT is the very Titans themselves. We know that the Warlords are going to be out on drop day. We know the Knights are coming that day as well. Reavers are following shortly; confirmed by Warhammer Community. How long do we have to wait for the Warhounds? I seriously hope it won't be a long wait. Those little chicken walkers are such scrappy little bastards and they have the most character of any Titan. I really want them to come out sooner rather than later. I'd take the Warhounds being out before any of the weapon options for other Titans.
Yet, it's not the Warhound release that will be my deepest desire. What I want to see most is the plethora of unique looks that we can get. Alternate Warlord heads will be an impressive thing to see. Variations on the Reaver even more so. And of course, you can't forget the Lucius Pattern! The Lucius Pattern Warhound is an enduring and loved design that makes head turn like it's "The Exorcist" because of how sharp they are. And let's not forget that Imperius Dictatio is a Lucius Pattern Warlord. People have long wanted a plastic Lucius Warhound for 28mm 40k, why not do it in AT?
My biggest wish in the game really does come down to the Titans. I want flavor and personality to be a big thing with these kits. Options, magnetization friendly, and just overall revival of some of the coolest looks out there.
What do you lords and ladies think? Am I off of my rocker, or are you nodding your head in agreement? I'd love to hear what you guys think and what you want to see as well. You know what to do: hit up that comments section!
