Adeptus Titanicus- The Rules Set

You have no clue how long we've been waiting to tell you about this.  Princeps and Scions, it's time to crack open Adeptus Titanicus.  We were blessed to receive an early copy and we're going to dive in.  Welcome to Titan Owners Club’s review of the Adeptus Titanicus Rules Set.  A separate article will cover the rulebook itself, but first we’ll dive into the overall box.

THE CONTENTS
Included in the box are:
  •          The rulebook.
  •          12 inch range finder.
  •          2 Quick Reference Sheets.
  •          An Adeptus Titanicus cardstock type poster.
  •          Plastic sprue with status markers, Opus Titanica, objective marker, Titan identifier        chips, and arc templates.
  •          Blast and flame templates.
  •          Deck of Stratagem and Objective cards.
  •          Deck of weapon cards.
  •          The dice needed to play Adpetus Titanicus.
  •          2 each of command terminals for Warlord, Reaver, and Scout Titans.
  •          2 command terminals for Knight Banners.

THE PIECES
The rulebook (which is beautifully presented) is the first thing that meets you as you open the box.  The book sits squarely in s small plastic tray (more on that later) and keeps everything underneath it from sliding around.  We review the rulebook in a separate article.
While the game has a moderately high entry cost, and there are no models in the Rules Set beyond the Battlefield Assets, the overall box justifies its cost with what is included.  After diving past the rulebook the player finds a range finder and two quick reference sheets which summarize the steps of the game, Titan orders, and other common in-game effects.  The two reference sheets are identical to one another and both come printed double-sided on a thick, matte paper.

Are you drooling yet?  This is just the start of the box!

The best part is that these are full sized pages!  Laminate these and you and your gaming buddies will be using these for years to come.

Along with these two materials, there is a cardstock poster that shows the products that are available for the game at drop day (Warlord, Knights, and scenery).  Flipping this over reveals a poster of the cover art itself.  This is followed by two sprues: one for the templates, and another for the status markers and other items.

This is going up on a wall.

The plastic sprue for the various accessories allows the players to build the Battlefield Assets they can use in game.  It also provides plenty of status markers to use on the command terminals, as well as the Opus Titanica used to symbolize the First Player, and an objective marker.  The objective marker being a wrecked Warlord head is a very nice touch and will add character to games.  Also on the sprue are the arc templates, one for each class of Titan.  All of the items on the sprue are unpainted plastic, allowing players to customize their box contents to their liking.

Below the sprues are the command terminals, Titan weapon cards, objective and stratagem cards, and dice.  The dice are of neutral red and gold coloration with the Opus Titanica taking the place of the 6 on the D6.  The game also includes two D10, a location die, and reactor dice, ensuring that enough will be available for two-person games.  The command terminals provided in the set are made of a thick, heavy cardboard that will stand up to plenty of use and are easy to read.  The size of the cards is about that of a tablet (an index card in the case of Knights).  They are easy to hold yet still small enough to be placed on the gaming table.

Forgetting these at home will not only get a good giggle out of the group, but it's going to make the game impossible to play.

THE VERDICT
This is not your typical starting box for a game.  The only models you get are for the Battlefield Assets, meaning you have the rules to play, but no Titans to beat face with.  However, as the rulebook shows later on, this can be advantageous as you find out what style of play you want to use.  What you get in the Rules Set is everything else that you need to play.  The materials are of high quality and the box itself comes with a plastic tray that allows you to neatly store everything in a single location.  The command terminals in particular are high-quality and durable, while the overall presentation of the game is great.  The poster is an extremely nice touch as well.
