Adeptus Titanicus- Titandeath- Adeptus Titanicus Campaigns

We continue our look at the Adeptus Titanicus supplement Titandeath with the campaigns for Adeptus Titanicus.  The missions that were provided already serve as a campaign of sorts when played in order; however, Titandeath opens up avenues for the creation of campaigns using other missions as well as maps.  These rules are extensive without being too complex and are so detailed that we can only flesh them out so much during our review.

CAMPAIGNS

The campaign system presented in Titandeath allows for the creation and maintenance of a roster of Titans.  The campaign system also covers the repair, refitting, and replacement of Titans within a force.  The system’s main focus is on the roster, which is used to form the battlegroups that players use for their games.

Adding depth to the campaign, Titan crews gain experience which reflects their skills, be they green or elite warriors, with more experienced crews gaining re-rolls.  Fitting for the era, the campaign also contains a betrayal system, allowing players to switch sides.  The system encourages players to announce their intentions ahead of the game and discusses ways that this action can be facilitated.

The campaign system is wide open, robust, and flexible.  An important aid to the players is that the book contains a campaign roster that can be printed.  This roster is a necessary tool that tracks the players, Titans, crews, and equipment.

Game rewards come in the form of additional armoury points, crew experience, and Honour.  Armoury points are effectively a requisition total available to Titan Legions.  These points are used to cover Titans, equipment, and weaponry.  The campaign also contains a salvage system to help players recover preciously lost gear so that armoury points can be saved, especially since they are vital to repairs.  Armoury points can be spent to bring damaged engines back to the fight with less damage, or even fully repair them, since engines retain their damage between games (except for weapons).

Other interested elements to this system include the ability for Titans to retrofit weapons between battles.  Players will only pay the weapon cost once at the time of purchase, using their available armoury points.  Unless lost, the player can then swap their weapons between Titans of the appropriate class between battles without paying extra points.  If a player wants more engines instead of more weapons, they may purchase new Titans with their points.

The campaign system details how armoury points are obtained, crew experience is accumulated, and how Honour is earned.  Honour is the key to winning the campaign, and is achieved through playing games, with an emphasis on winning battles.  The system concludes with how to conduct optional map campaigns
